The Next Mr. Limpet

We have a big fish lover on our hands, but Mike has promised me that he will not stare into the tank for hours on end or turn into a fish himself. (If you have no idea what I am talking about, don't be alarmed. It's a reference to a movie about a man who loves fish so much that he turns into one.- The Incredible Mr. Limpet)

Mike has always wanted a big fish tank. In fact, if he had his way, we would have multiple big fish tanks throughout the house. In fact, if he had his way, the whole wall that the TV is on right now would be converted into one big tank. Well, I happened to find a big fish tank for free at a garage sale. (Never mind that we were in Oregon at the time and didn't really have much space to drive it home.) So, we figured out how to fit our luggage around it and brought it home.

Mike has had so much fun researching, prepping, and filling the tank. It has been fun to see the little kid inside him break out. He was so excited and happy when it was finally finished. It looks absolutely amazing and I think he did a great job. I never knew how much goes into conditioning and prepping the tank, it is a surprisingly long process.

He picked some great rocks from our yard that add a lot of texture to the tank.

We made a lot of trips to the pet store to look at options and get different supplies. He decided to get two different kids of fish: peacock and yellow lab cichlids. When we came back with the fish from the store I thought, this would be hilarious out of context, "We went to the pet store to get some peacocks and some labs. We brought them home and put them in the fish tank. "

He created a lot of fun hiding holes for the fish to swim in.

 

We decided to put it in the preschool so that the kids could enjoy it as well. 

Now he just needs to name them. : )
