We Moved!

The new house!

Our beautiful spring blossoms.

The view from our front window. It's pretty awesome!
September marked a big change for our family. We moved from Arizona to Utah. It was quite an ordeal with a lot of heart ache throughout the process, but in the end everything turned out well. We are really grateful for Mike's job, which he loves, and we couldn't ask for a better neighborhood.

It started out in March when Mike wasn't sure if he would be downsized from his Arizona school because he was the newest hired teacher. We came for a teacher fair here in Utah and then we applied for a lot of jobs. We weren't getting any responses and we were wondering what was up. Mike's resume was good and he had great references. We found out later that normally, Utah principals get so many applicants that they don't often look at people out of state. Anyway, I made a call to Travis Blevins, one of my good childhood friends. He was a vice principal at one of the Orem elementary schools at the time. We mentioned that we were applying for a job at Orem Junior High and asked if he would put a good word in for Mike.

The principal was impressed with what he saw so they did 2 interviews over skype. The first was with the principal and the second was with the history team and the principal. We were so excited to get the job! There was definitely some divine intervention in getting it. The principal said he wouldn't have looked at Mike's resume (because he was out of state) if Travis hadn't put in a good word. Then, when he met Mike in person, he said that he had called Mike's current principal at the time (Joe). Joe described Mike using exact words that he was looking for in teachers he was hiring.

Shortly there after, we came up to go house hunting. We found a house that we liked, but they wouldn't accept our offer because we hadn't sold our other house. We came again in June to kick off our crazy summer vacation road trips. We found another house that was perfect and we so excited when they accepted our offer! A couple of weeks later, when we were back in Arizona, we got a devastating call that the owners had decided to take their house off the market because of some family issues. There wasn't much we could do, so we packed up and went to Utah, putting all of our things in storage and started house hunting again for a third time. We had offer after offer outbid and we were getting nervous. We had put an offer on our house. It was everything we wanted, just on a smaller scale than what we were expecting. Again our offer got outbid. A few days later, we got a call that the higher bidder had lost their job and we were the second highest bidder. We could have the house if we wanted it. We prayed and thought a lot about how we would do with less space, and decided to go through with it!

We had hoped that the owners would let us rent the house while we were waiting for the paperwork to go through, but that didn't work out. We stayed at Aunt Ginny's for a couple of weeks and once school started we moved into a one bedroom hotel room for two weeks until we closed. It was challenging, but we survived.

The day we closed, I went to the house without Mike because he was working. The first thing I did was turn on the faucet upstairs and it immediately started pouring out water under the sink and onto the floor. Mike had found the leak during the inspection, but I didn't realize it was that sink. Our awesome realtor came to my rescue and re-tightened the pipes. I pulled down some ugly curtains that were still in the house to sop up the mess.

After that, everything was pretty great. Mike enjoyed picking fresh peaches off of the peach tree every day after school. The ward and neighborhood were amazing at helping us move in. They even set up all our beds and the washer and dryer while they were unpacking the truck. The first week while I was trying to unpack, I didn't get much work done because so many people stopped by to introduce themselves and welcome us to the neighborhood. It was such a wonderful and warm welcome.

It has been a good change and we hope to never move again. We have so many fun plans on improvements and additions to make our house grow as our kids do.
